This letter   supplements our response to the above referenced IE Bulletin concerning   masonry wall design at the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
This letter supplements our response to the above referenced IE Bulletin concerning masonry wall design at the Donald C.Cook Nuclear Plant.In Reference 2 we reported the status of the evaluation which was partially completed at that time.As reported earlier, none of the safety related equipment or piping systems are attached to the masonry block walls, with the exception of certain juction boxes for some of the safety-related conduits.We have reviewed all applicable architectural and structural wall drawings pertinent to the seismic class 1 buildings and structures of Cook Plant to identify all concrete masonry walls in proximity to safety related equipment.
In Reference 2 we reported the status of the evaluation which was partially completed at   that time.
All current plant changes are being reviewed to verify that all concrete masonry walls were constructed from architectural and/or structural drawings.In addition we are in the process of conducting plant surveys to confirm our evaluation of the existence of attachments to masonry walls.Our investigation has shown that there are no concrete masonry walls in the containment building.There is a dry stacked masonry block infill in the regenerative heat exchanger room wall but this infill is encapsulated in steel and constitutes a removable shield plug in the rein-forced concrete wall.We have located and identified one hundred fifty-six 810 188'tO CP JA~19>gg 0 I~-fp Mr.James G.Keppler AEP:NRC:0418A (156)concrete masonry walls in the seismic Class 1 structures and buildings of the Cook Plant.Of these, one hundred thirty (130)masonry walls are located close enough to safety-related equipment or piping to be considered for potential interactions under the scope of the bulletin.We have completed the evaluation of the seismic design of these masonry walls and have concluded that forty one (41)will require some strengthening to resist seismic loads.We are in the process of evaluating the concrete masonry walls for the effects of pipe jet forces.The final design of the required structural modifications dependsupon the outcome of our jet load evaluation.
