Dear Mr. Schnell:

l

SUBJECT:

CALLAWAY PLANT UPRATING APPLICATION l We received your letter of July 16, 1987 and are aware of your concern l l

regarding the timely review of your power uprating application dated l March 31, 1987. As you are aware, our primary concerns and our highest l priority efforts must be for immediate safety issues. Ve are in the process of establishing priorities for all applications and other I licensing issues and your uprating application will be considered j accordingly.

i l In your July 16, 1987 letter, you requested a schedule of October 15,  ;

j 1987 to allow uprating to be implemented at the beginning of Cycle 3. l l With the number of actions before us of higher safety priority we will not be able to complete our safety review on your requested schedule. We will establish a priority and schedule for the Callaway uprating and will keep your, staff informed through the licensing project manager If you have any further questions in this matter, please let us know.

Sincerely, Orfgirmi gy Frany3,gg,ag, Frank J. Miraglia Associate Director for Projects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation cc: See next page l
