Dear Mr. Jenkins:
Enclosed please find the August 1986 operational report for public water supply operating permit No. 4085504. This report is provided to fulfill requirements of the operating permit issued in April 1986.
The daily average filtration rates are calculated by dividing the total gallons per day by 1440 minutes to get gallons per minute. This number is then divided by 157 square feet, the filtration area of both filters since both are normally in service.
The daily maximum filtration rate is calculated by dividing the maximum instantaneous flowrate from the strip chart recorder by 157 square feet. It has been determined that during the gravity filter backwash cycle, the filter in service only receives half the flow. The daily maximum filtration rate can be no greater than the maximum instantaneous flowrate divided by 157 square feet.
