Dear Mr. Filip:

Pursuant to our telephone conversation of July 25, 1983, the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company (PP&L) is providing the Corps of Engineers with a plan for performing maintenance on

the Susquehanna SES discharge diffuser.

This plan includes pumping less than 10 cubic yards of river silt and sediment from the diffuser into the Susquehanna River.

This material has been l

tested to make certain it is not hazardous.

This activity will begin on August 8, 1983.

All work will be conducted in an environmentally sound manner.

I We have notified per your recommendation other regulatory agencies to make certain that they are aware of this activity and to obtain their concurrence.

These agencies are:

Management may observe this activity and take water quality samples.

i The work plan is to pump out the silt and sediment by using a 4-inch Homelite Trash Pump with a suction strainer made of 3 -inch plastic j

pipe with ten 1-inch diameter openings along the sides.

This pump will have two discharges of less than 200 gpm each.

This will allow for maximum dilution and minimum turbidity.
