HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 OWNER'S DATA REPORT FOR INSERVICE INSPECTION HINTER 1988 MAINTENANCE / REFUELING OUTAGE Gentlemen:

Pursuant to the requirements of Article IHA-6000 of the ASME Code,Section XI, enclosed for your review is the Owner's Data Report for Inservice Inspection (Form NIS-1) for the inservice inspection activities conducted at Plant Hatch Unit 2 during the Hinter 1988 maintenance /

refueling outage.

Georgia Power Company (GPC) has performed several inspections not specifically required by ASHE Code,Section XI, on selected Class 1, 2, and 3 components. The results of the Code and augmented inspections performed at Unit 2 are summarized below and reported in the Owner's Data Report.

o In response to the Surry pipe break incident, GPC performed ultrasonic testing (UT) thickness measurements on selected components in the extracted steam, auxiliary vents and drain, and condensate /feedwater piping system. Erosion / corrosion indications were acceptable.

o A remote ultrasonic examination of the shroud access cover was performed utilizing both a 45-degree shear wave and a 60-degree refracted longitudinal wave technique. No indications associated with intergranular stress corrosion cracking or other flaw conditions were detected.

o All 20 jet pump hold-down beams were UT examined per General Electric (GE) Service Information Letter (SIL)-330. Jet pump beam No. 20 had a crack-like indication, and was removed and replaced. The replacement beam was UT examined and found to be acceptable.

Eight bolts had crack-like indications (Nos. 6,10,13, 17, 24, 32, 34, and 36). Six bolts were replaced (Nos. 6, 10, 17, 24, 32, and 36). The remaining two bolts were evaluated and deemed to be acceptable by GE.

o Per Nuclear Regulatory Commission Bulletin 80-13, the core spray sparger and associated piping were visually examined. No reportable indications were detected.

o Visual examination of the jet pump mixing nozzles revealed evidence of erosion in the throat area. The erosion was evaluated by GE and deemed acceptable with recommendations for additional monitoring in future outages.
