NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-321/99-09 AND 50-366/99-09
Dear Mr. Sumner:-
This refers to the inspection conducted on June 7-11 and August 23-27,1999, at your
engineering corporate office and your Hatch facility. This was a Safety System Engineering
Inspection. The primary objective of this Safety System Engineering inspection was to assess
- the adequacy of calculations, analyses, and other engineering activities used to support
operability and reliability of the high pressure coolant injection and reactor core isolation cooling
systems.
The inspection found that you operated the systems consistent with the design and licensing
bases'.- Your engineering staffs were knowledgeable and operated the systems with high
reliability.L
Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that one violation of NRC
requirements occurred. This violation is being treated as a Non-Cited Violation, consistent with
Appendix C of the Enforcement Policy. This Non-Cited Violation is described in the subject
inspection report.; If you contest the violation or severity level of this Non-Cited Violation, you
should provide a response within 30 days of the date of this inspection report, with the basis for
your denial, to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ATTN: Document Control Desk,
Washington DC 20555-0001, with copies to the Regional Administrator, Region ll, and the
Director, Office of Enforcement, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington,
DC 20555-0001.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
. enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
