PERTAINING TO GENERIC LETTER 88-11 i-The - following information is provided in response to a verbal request from the-Materials and Chemical Engineering Branch of NRR. The information pertains to GPC's response to Generic letter (GL) 88-11 for Plant Hatch.

1.

Provide the RTNDT value for the Hatch 2 closure flange region.

RESPONSE

The closure flange region RTNDT for Hr.tch 2 is currently assumed to ba 400F, based on the vessel purchase specification requirement that all vessel materials meet ASME Code (at date of construction) requirements for toughness at 400F or less. The actual RTNDT for the closure flange region has been determined as part of the surveillance capsule test work currently in progress at GE.

Based on Charpy data taken at the time of fabrication, and using a GE correlation to estimate the RTNDT, as it would be measured by current ASME requirements, the closure flange region has a RTNDT of 300F, 2.

Is 78 ft-lb upper shelf energy (USE) given in the FSAR for Hatch I beltline plates a typical value, or the lowest value?

RESPONSE

The USE value of 78 ft-lb is the lowest value for.the Hatch I beltline plates. This value is the equivalent transverse

.USE, estimated from longitudinal USE data by the methods of Branch Technical Position MTEB 5-2.

This is also expected to be the lowest USE of any beltline material in Hatch 1, although data appropriate for determining USE are not available for the beltline welds.-
