Subject:

Containment Leak Testing Program Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes our completed response to the issues raised in the f Staff's Safety Evaluation of Maine Yankee's Type C leak testing program and i containment liner weld test channel integrity, Reference (b).

In Reference (c), we responded to all areas of concern raised in Reference (b) with the exception of Type C testing of steam generator blowdown valves.

After a detailed re-evaluation of these valves during the recently completed 1985 refueling outage, Maine Yankee agrees with the Staff's position.

1. By July 1,1986 Maine Yankee's Containment Leak Teeting Program will be revised to require local (Type C) leak rate testing of the steam generator blowdown valves for containment penetrations 47A, 478 and 47C in accordance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix J, III.C. The valves will be tested by the end of the next refueling outage.

We trust this information is satisfactory, however, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER C0bf)ANY hgjl2g24851114 p
