Request For NRC Review ofIndependent Spent Fuel Storage Installation Licensing Submittals and Approval for Operation Gentlemen:
Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company (MYAPC) is currently pursuing the design, construction, and licensing of an Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI), using the guidance found in references (b) thru (f), for continued long term storage of Ps spent nuclear fuel. This letter is provided to inform the NRC ofour ISFSI activities, as indicated in reference (a), and to request NRC

review ofsubmittals, as scheduled, and ISFSI approval for operation by December,2000. MYAPC will support any NRC Request for Additional Information on an expedited basis.
j The attached licensing milestone sc'hedule list the activities and submittals to be provided for the j

licensing of the ISFSI facility. The schedule provides for operation of the facility by April,2001.
l Timely NRC approval oflicensing submittals is necessary to minimize unnecessary expenditures ofdecommissioning resources and to allow operation of the ISFSI facility, as scheduled, in support r
of our site decommissioning activities.
