SUBJECT:
REMOVAL OF CONFIRMATORY ORDERS ISSUED TO MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER STATION (TAC NO. MA0821)
Dear Mr. Meisner.
I have rescinded confirmatory orders dated July 10,1981; March 14,1983; June 14,1984; and January 3,1996, that were issued to Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company (MYAPC) for the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station (MYAPS). The first three confirmed MYAPC's commitments related to post-Three Mile Island issues. The fourth confirmed MYAPC's commitments to limit power and containment pressure pending the completion of certain analyses. The NRC staff has determined that because of the permanently shutdown and defueled status of the MYAPS facility, these orders are no longer necessary for safe operation or maintenance of the plant. The rescission is made in response to the good cause shown by your request of September 25,1997, as explained in further detail by the enclosed safety evaluation.
