1.1.2 Base metals shall be prepared fo.r welding by machining or grinding and cleaned of all oil, grease and excessive amount of scale, 1.1.3 Grinding shall be accomplished with wheels not previously used on carbon or low alloy steel, 1.1.4 Degressing shall Se accomplished by swabbing the weld area with acetone or other acceptable solvent.

No residual cleaning compound shall be left on surfaces prior to welding.

This purge gas may be teminated after a minimum of 3/16" of weld metal thickness is deposited.

1.8 Electrical Charactaristics (0W-409),

1.8.1 The current to be used shall be direct.

i 1.8.2 The polarity shall be straight for the GTAW Process and reverse for the SMAW Process.

1.8.3 For the GTAW Rrocess the electrical range shall be 40 to 120 Amps.,

1.8.4 For the SMAW Process the electrical range shall be as follows:

1/8" electrode 70 to 130 Amps, 21 to25 Volts Travelspeed 4 to 6 in. per min.
