aration prior to coating for Service Level I coatin5 work.

2.0 REFERENCES

2.1 The following documents were used as guidelines.

2.1.1 ANSI N512-1974, " Protective Coatings for the Nuclear Industry".

2.'1.2 ANSI N45.2.10-1973, " Quality Assurance Terms and Definitions".

2.1.3 ANSI N101.4-1972, " Quality Assurance for Protective Coatings Applied to Nuclear Facilities".

2.1.4 Steel Structures Painting Manual, Volume 2. " Systems and Specifi-cations", 1973 2.1.5 Ebasco Specification LOU 1564.734.

3.0 DEFINITIONS 31 Unless otherwise noted, the definitions as given in the above-referenced documents shall. apply.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

4.1 The Quality Control Inspector shall inspect the coating surface before and after surface preparation, and document the findings in accordance with the Inspection Procedure. Document W3-5.

4.2 The Quality Control Supervisor shall supervise the inspector and initial the completed inspection reports.

4.3 The job superintendent shall see that the surface preparation is-carried out as required.

4.4 The Site Quality Control Manager shall obtain information regarding any improper, incompatible or otherwise unacceptable concrete curing or form release agents from the Engineer.

5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Representative inspections shall be made of each shift's work.

Doc W3-10 PG3 Rev. 0 5.2 Surface preparation inspections shall be conducted and documented in accordance with the Inspection Procedure, Document W3-5.

5.3 Each load of the abrasive to be used shall be inspected with the unaided eye to determine presence of detrimental contaminants and/or moisture. Unsuitable abrasive shall not be used.

5.4 Steel Structures Painting Council.2urface preparation specifications referenced in the contract documents shall be applicable as referenced.

5.5 Cleaning of steel.

5.5.1 Where applicable, visual inspection of the cleaned surface shall be based on SSPC-Vis 1-67T or equivalent standard.

5.5.2 cleaned surfaces shall be examined with normal light with the unaided eye for evidence of oil, grease, smudges, or other detrimental contamination. Any such contamination shall be removed by an appropriate solvent, reblasting, or other suit-able means.

5.5.3 The anchor pattern shall be determined on each shift's blasting using a Keane-Tator Comparator, Test-x Tape, or equivalent means.

5.5.4 Hand and/or power tool cleaning may be used in lieu of abrasive blasting, provided the specified degree of cleanliness is achieved and the finished surface. is appropriately roughened for coating adhesion.

5.6 cleaning of concrete surface.

l 5.6.1 The cleaned surface shall be inspected with the unaided eye in normal light for evidence of unacceptable protrusions, laitence, or efflorescence. Any defects shall be appro-priately corrected before surface preparation is considered acceptable.

l 5.6.2 The c'oncrete shall appear dry except that when primer / surfacers which can be applied over damp concrete are used, the concrete need only be free of puddles and other accumulations of water.

5.6.3 The concrete surfaces shall be free of detrimental contaminates.
