SUBJECT:. NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-369/90-14 AND 50-370/90-14 {

This' refers to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) special inspection

conducted by-the inspectors on June 26, 1990 - July 5, 1990. The inspection

included a review of activities authorized for your McGuire facility associated

with the inoperability of both Unit 1 emergency diesel generators for approxi-

mately 26 hours3.009259e-4 days <br />0.00722 hours <br />4.298942e-5 weeks <br />9.893e-6 months <br /> on June 25-26, due to painting of the fuel racks. At the ,

conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of i

your staff identified in the enclosed inspection report.

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within-

'

these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures  ;

'

and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of

activities in progress.

. The; apparent violations described in the enclosed inspection report are under

conddaration for escalated enforcement action. Accordingly, no Notice of ,

Violation, is being issued at this time.for the v41ations, and no response is '

required. However, please be advised that the nafier and characterization of 1

the violations described'in the enclosed Inspedon Report may change as a  :

result of further NRC review.. An Enforcement conference .to discuss the .

violations has been scheduled for July 31,.1990. You will be advised by

separate correspondence of the results of our deliberations on this matter,
