Dear Mr. Barron:

The staff has completed its review of your response to Generic Letter 97-05, the focus of "hich was to verify that licensees' steam generator (SG) tube inspection practices were consister.

with the existing regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases. Duke Energy Corporation (DEC) submitted its response on February 24,1998, that included a description and technical bases for allinspection techniques used to size the depth of the SG tube degradation at McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2. The staff's review of this response did not identify any concerns with the SG tube inspection techniques employed at McGuire that would indicate that DEC !s not in compliance with the current licensing bases for the McGuire facility.

This completes our effort on DEC's response for McGuire Nuclear Station.
