NRC EXAMINATION REPORT NOS. 50-369/99-301 AND 50-370/99-301
Dear Mr. Barron:
On January 25 - February 5,1999, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) administered
examinations to employees of your company who had applied for licenses to operate the
McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2. At the conclusion of the examination, the examiners
discussed the examination questions and preliminary findings with those members of your staff
" identified in the enclosed report. A Simulation Facility Report is included in this report as
Enclosure 2.
Of the eleven senior reactor operators (SRO) and reactor operator (RO) candidates who
received written examinations and operating tests, nine passed the examination (and two
failed), representing an 82 percent pass rate. Six of the eleven candidates were identified as

having some knowledge weaknesses on the written examination and three candidates
demonstrated performance weaknesses during the operating test. The individual examination
reports should be reviewed to determine if adjustments to the training program, as well as
. Individual remediation, are needed.
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
