a) BECo. Letter #79-130 to NRC dated Jul 6, 1979, titled " Conference Call Review and Supplementary Information to Proposed Amendment to Operating License"

Dear Sir:

In Reference a) above, we informed you that item 3.1.7 Fire Doors and portions of item 3.1.2 Water Suppression Systems and Equipment would be completed by November 1,1979; however, some items require more time to complete for reasono as delineated below.

Item 3.1.7 Fire Doors As of November 1,1979, 15 of the remaining 18 doors were installed. Another was installed on November 2, 1979. Of the two remaining doors , procurement is forthcoming and one will be installed on or before December 1,1979. The remaining door varies in design to the extent that procurement is not available within the United States. A vendor was located in England who can supply th door, but not prior to February 1, 1980. While awaiting receipt of the door, we will provide as an interim measure, two portable extinguishers at the enisting door and promptly notify you upon completion of this item.

Item 3.1.2 Water Suppression Systems and Equipment 132i 2A0 The interior hose couplings, gated hydrants (outside) and nozzles with thread compatability to that of Te local Fire Department were ordered and received, but lacked the proper Q. A. documentation as necessary for installation at Pilgrim. The Q. A. documentation has since been supplied by the vendor and installation is currently in process and will Se completed on or before December 1, 1979. In the interim, the four hose adaptees will remain available at the main gate for use in the station if necessary.

Mr. Thomas A. Ippolito, Chief November 6,1979 Page 2 Additional lengths of hose were added to the nine interior hose stations by November 1,1979; however, delays contributed by labor and material procure-ment prevented completion of installation of the five new hose stations by November 1,1979. Four new hose stations will be installed by December 1, 1979, and in the interim extra extinguishers will be provided at the control room, cable screadine room (east / west) and an additional hose length will be provided at the existing hose station located adjacent to the intake structure.

The new hose station to be installed outside the offices will be completed concurrent with the automatic aprinkler suppression system, since this hose station is needed to comply with the single passive failure requirement. In the interim, extra portable extinguishers will be installed and upon completion of the new hose station outside the cable spreading room (East), additional -

lengths of hose sufficient to reach the outside of fices will be supplied.

The following portions of Item 3.1.2 were completed on or before November 1, 1979.

Equipment was provided at each exterior host house in accordance with the guidance contained in NFPA 24 In additior., 2 " x 15" x lb" gated wye con-nectors were provided in each hose house; and not less than one-half of the exterior hose houses were equipped with 2h" adjustable firh hose nozzles.

Spray adjustable nozzles were provided for interior hese stations located to protect creas containing high voltage equipment.

All shutoff, isolation and sectionalizing valves in the flow path supplying hose stations and water suppressic;. systems were locked or fixed in their correct position with camper proof 'eals. The valves will be periodically checked to ensure that they are '< the correct position.

Should further information be required regarding these items, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Very truly yours ,
