OCTOBER 5 1840 Shift began reducing reactor power for a Maintenance Outage to repair the pump seal on the "B" Reactor Recirculation Pump.
An automatic reactor scram occurred wher. the turbine
[ OCTOBER 6 0337 tripped on high vibration.
OCTOBER 9 2125 Shift began rod withdrawal for reactor startup.
t OCTOBER 10 0232 The reactor was critical.
OCTOBER 11 0757 The generator was tied to the grid; ascension to rated thermal power was underway.
OCTOBER 12 0410 The unit was at rated thermal power.
OCTOBER 15 1420 Shift began reducing power due to an increase in generator output, which could be indicative of a loss of feedwater heating.
OCTOBER 15 1507 A manual reactor scram was inserted and the turbine manually
- tripped due to high vibration.
OCTOBER 16 2347 Shift began rod withdrawal for reactor startup.
OCTOBER 17 0344 The reactor was critical.
OCTOBER 17 1934 The generator was tied to the grid; ascension to rated thermal power was underway.
OCTOBER 18 1551 The unit was at rated thermal power.
OC10BER 19 2120 Shift bcpan reducing load to approximately 440 GMWe for maintenanr.n on the A" Circulating Water Pump.

The torque switch setting was within the manufacturers recommended range but in the lower end.
The torque switch setting was raised and the valve functionally tested to ensure proper operation.

The exact cause of the vibration increase has not been determined; however, a potential cause could have been closure of the Reheat Steam Source Valves for the Moisture Separator Reheaters.
Testing and inspection revealed no actual failure which would have caused the valves to close. Addtionally, personnel were interviewed to determine if the switch had been repositioned. The results were negative.
