CAUSE/ CORRECTIVE ACTION / COMMENTS:

NARRATIVE REPORT Unit 2 operated at maximum achievable thermal power with End of Cycle Coastdown in progress until 9/7/98 when Shift began reducing load in preparation for a unit shutdown. The unit entered the 14th Refueling Outage en 9/8/98 when Shift inserted a manual scram and tripped the Main Turbine. Shift began unloading a predetermined number of fuel bundles on 9/12/98 to facilitate in-vessel work and inspection. The initial fuel movements were completed on 9/13/98. Shift began fuel shuffle on 9/25/98 and the shuffle was completed cn 9/29/98. Actmbes associated with the 14th Refueling Outage continued for the remainder of the month.

CAUSE/CORRECTNE ACTION / COMMENTS:

NARRATIVE REPORT Unit 1 operated at rated thermal power for most of the month of September. Shift reduced load to approximately 700 GMWe on 9/21/98 to remove the "A" Cooling Tower from service for structural repairs. Shift began slowly increasing unit load later that day while monitoring condenser vacuum. The unit was returned to rated thermal power on 9/23/98 with the A" Cooling Tower out of service. The "A" Cooling Tower was returned to service on 9/28/98. Shift began reducing load on 9/30/98 in preparation for removing the Main Generator from the grid to replace a strainer in the Stator Cooling Water system. Shift continued the load reduction with the unit at approximately 120 GMWe at the end of this reporting period.
