NARRATIVE REPORT ,

j Unit 1 operated at rated thermal power for most of the month of August. Shift reduced load to approximately 595 GMWe on 8/9/98 to perform a control rod sequence exchange, scram time testing, turbine control valve testing, and inspection and replacement of selected servo-strainers in the turbine Electro-Hydraulic Control System.

Inspection activities were also performed in the condenser bay while at reduced load. The unit was returned to rated thermal power later that day.

CAUSE/ CORRECTIVE ACTION / COMMENTS:

NARRATIVE REPORT Unit 2 operated at rated thermal power until 8/7/98 when Shift inserted control rod 22-15 to the " full in" position to facilitate the replacement of both scram pilot solenoid valves on the associeted hydraulic control unit. The Insertion of this rod resulted in a reduction of thermal power to approximately 98%. Shift reduced load to approximately 685 GMWe later that day, to perform scram time testing on control rod 22-15. The unit was returned to rtted thermal power on 8/8/98. Shift maintained operation at rated thermal power until 8/20/98 when the unit entered End of Cycle Coastdown. Shift removed the "B" 4th stage feedwater heater from service on 8/30/98 for Final Feedwater Temperature Reduction and maintained maximum achievable thermal power for the remainder of the month.
