,A SPECIAL REPORT 84-05

On October 29,1984, Crystal River Unit #3 was operating at 93% reactor power and 855 MWe. 'At 0640, the halon portion of the fire suppression system for the cable spreading room was taken out of service in support of a modification to the

. the cable spreading room. Fire watches were established for fire protection immediately and continued the entire time the system was out of service. The system was inoperable for a period exceeding fourteen (14) days and, as required E by Technical Specification 3.7.11.3, this rpecial report is submitted.

' The modification which precipitated the out of service condition is for construction of a remote shutdown panel and required that the wall and door of the cable spreading room be removed. This made it impractical to re-establish the operability of the halon system within the 14 day limit. The work continues to

. installithe remote shutdown facility but the room integrity has been re-established -' and the halon system was returned to service at 1605 on

November 21,'1984.' The total out of service time was twenty-four days, eleven hours, twenty-five minutes. The system will be out of service periodically during this' modification for welding in the cable spreading room, however, fire watches will be posted when necessary.
