SPECIAL REPORT 92-03 4

This Special Report provides information concerning the cause and corrective actions for failure of the Auxiliary Building High Range Noble Gas Monitor.

This Report is being provided per the Offsite Dose Calculation Manual, Requirement 2.2, Action 29, because the High Range Monitor was inoperable  ;

for more than seven (7) days.

On August 15, 1992, during routine calibration of the Auxiliary Building High Range Noble Gas Monitor, the monitor failed the calibration and was determined to be inoperable. The preplanned alternative monitoring method ,

via the Automated Isotopic Monitoring System was verified to'be available for use. Repair of the monitor included replacement of amplifier components and the detector-sensor. P The monitor was returned to operable status on September 1, 1992. The repair took longer than the allowed outage time of seven (7) days because a new detector was not immediately available and had to be ordered from the manufacturer.
