Dear Sir:

Florida Power Corporation (FPC) submitted to the NRC a Justification for Continued Operation for Three Purp Operation on January 27, 1989.

This submittal followed the f ailure of Reactor Coolant Pump 1A (RCP-1A) on January 18, 1989, and provided a basic description of the RCP-1A failure event. In the correspondence, FPC stated that a detailed sequence of events would be provided in an associated Licensee Event Report. Based on the review of the event and the extensive verbal and written communications with the NRC, a Licensee Event Report was not considered necessary. The detailed sequence of events of the RCP-1A failure on January 18, 1989, is provided herein.
