r, -6 SPECIAL REPORT 85-02 At 0655 on April 8,1985, during a refueling and modification outage, the Halon portion of the fire suppression system for the cable sp;eading room was taken out of service in support of various modifications to the cable spreading room. Fire watches were immediately established and backup fire suppression equipment provided in accordance with the action statement of Technical Specification 3.7.11.3.

The modifications which precipitated the out of service condition include the remote shutdown modification, the emergency feedwater initiation and control (EFIC) modification, the Appendix R modification, and upgrades to supports and hangers located in the cable spreading room. All of these modifications required welding to be performed, which makes it impractical to re-establish the operability of the Halon system within the' fourteen day limit. Work on the above modifications is expected to continue through July 1,1985, after whic! the Halon portion of the fire suppression system for the cable spreading room will be restored to operability. Fire watches will continue until operability is restored.
