Dear Chairman Palladino:

News that the NRC is considering closing the nuclear plants at Indian Point New York is of great alarm to the citizens and the business j

community of Brooklyn.

The impact of such a ruling would strike at the utility payer in Brooklyn, discourage the business growth in the metropolitan area and I

encourage business to leave the northeast region.

Utility rates are already at a high level and any further unnecessary escalation would be an economic disaster to New York.

Business cannot absorb a five to eight percent rise in operating cost at this crucial time in our national recovery.

It would seem a wiser course of action to require local communities to make a greater effort to implement reasonable evacuation plans and if necessary utilize both the State and Federal resources towards this pur-pose.

Your most serious consideration will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, h

Joseph F.
