Dear Chairman Palladino:

.~.w I am hopeful that your Commission will look favorably on the recent improvement which has been made concerning an evacuation plan for Indian Point.

We are pleased to join with the Gannett Westchester Newspapers, our colleagues in the public press, in urging you to consider the impact of a shutdown in Indian Point. It is our opinion that any additional burden on the Edison Company would indeed have a devastating impact on the region.

We have covered this story for years and I can't recall any proof which has ever come before us that Indian Point is unsafe.

Further, Rockland County's reluctance to participate in an evacuation plan is understandable, however short-sighted.

In addition, I have heard some very good reports concerning the transportation problems which are now being worked on by the County of Westchester and Liberty Coach Lines whose president, Arthur Bernacchia is one of the most respected in the field.

We trust Bernacchia to deliver what he promises.

3 I am also pleased to note the participation of our i

great and good Governor Mario Cuomo in recent efforts to ensure the safety of our Westchester neighbors. Thus, for all these reasons - and for the good of Westchester County - we hope you and the members of the Commission will find a w'ay to keep Indian Point operating -safely and economically.

This is my own personal sense of the issue. But I believe it reflects the wishes of our listeners and most of the enlightened citizens of Westchester as well.

Yours, b
