In your May 2,1986, letter you requested a confirmatory survey of your property.

Because of former problems, we will a' wait your soil analysis results which hope-fully will show that UNC has removed the contaminated soil.

The attachment to your letter conveys impressions which need to be corrected.

The NRC has not changed its position on criteria for soil decontamination. We admit that our contractor did find an error in his analytical method which was conservative by 25 perceilt. The contractor discovered his error after UNC reported values which were nonconservative by about 2600 percent.

To facilitate license termination, please provide us with the analytical results for the soil and the dates when all licdnsed material will be removed from the site. With this information (assuming all remaining soil meets our decommissioning criteria) and continued favorable groundwater analyses, we can schedule our license termination actions.
