Albuquerque, NM 87110 Gentlemen:

This office is concerned about the delay in the decommissioning of the UNC Recovery Systems facility in Wood River Junction RI.

You are reque.ted to do the following:

1.

Complete the decommissioning of Grid B-126.

Enclosed is a January 25, 1988, ORAU letter showing significant contamination in the grid. Upon decomissioning of the grid, soil analysis results for the grid should be provided to this office.

2.

Provide all sample analysis data for all wells for 1986 and 1987 Previously submitted data for 1986 was incomplete and not the same as that provided cur Region I office.

3.

Remove all uranium from the site and certify same on the enclosed form NRC-314.

These actions should be taken within the next 60 days.

If any of these dCtions cannot be taken within 60 days, provide the schedule for completion of these actions.
