i MAY 121987 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUEST UNC RECOVERY SYSTEMS DOCKET 70-820 1.

In your letter dated January 30, 1987, you requested deletion of the sampling requirement for 17 wells. In your license, Section 400, Table 407.2-II, dated May 17, 1984, there are 26 wells. Please identify the 17 wells.

2.

Among the 26 wells in Section 400, Table 407.2-II, identify the wells that are out of service.

If the wells were out of service for a whole year, explain why these wells were not replaced by new wells as required in License Condition 11(b).

3.

Are the wells identified in the revised Section 400, Table 407.2-II (supersedes 5-17-84) to be sampled by UNC? What are the sampling frequencies and parameter analysis for these wells?

4. ' Please provide information on the locations (on a map) and the depths of the D-H wells. Provide the reason why. some of these D-H wells were out of service.and have not been replaced. What is the current plan for' sampling and analysis of the D-H well(s)?

~

5.

The rationale.in your letta e at"r January 30, 1987,~for the deletion of sampling the 17 wells is baseo n-E,vth analysis without showing isotopic concentrations exceeding the EPA Interim Drinking Water Standards of 15pCi/1 of alpha-producing isotopes or 50pCi/A of beta-producing isotopes. Explain why theotherEPAStandardsonthereleva$tradionuclides,such.asSr-90(8pCi/1) or Ra-228 and Ra-226 (SpCi/1), are excluded for comparison, a
