SUBJECT:
UNC WELL SAMPLE RESULTS-NITROGEN ANALYSES
Dear Mr. Parrott:
Enclosed are the results of the nitrogen analyses performed by USGS on the samples, recently obtained from wells near the former UNC Scrap Recovery Facility in Wood River Junction, Rhode Island. Please note that old wells RIW 667 and RIW 670 have been replaced by wells RIW 789 and RIW 790, respectively; the old well ID's were used in the radiological data report I provided early this week, and the appropriate correction to the Table 1 should be made. If you need a revised copy of that table, rather than a pen-and-ink change, please let me know.
If there are any questions regarding this information, I may be reached at (615) 576-3305.

Dear Mr. Berger:
j Attached are the results of the nitrogen sampling at the former United Nuclear facility in Wood River J unction, R.I. Twenty-five wells were sampled including two wells which were installed by Bart Barton to replace wells RIW 667 and RIW 670. These wells are numbered RlW 789 and RIW 790, respectively. Also included on the table are the three replicate samples taken for quali-i ty assurance. You will notice that two nitrogen species were sampled: nitrite and nitrite plus ni-l trate. The nitrite is considerably lower than the sum of nitrite and nitrate in all cases, so although I
theoretically one needs to subtract the nitrite from the nitrite plus nitrate to obtain nitrate, for all practical purposes, the sum can be used as the nitrate value, i
\\
Please send me the results of the radiological analyses when they are available.
Sincerely, cd yst4L Virginia de Lima
