.RE: Docket No. 50-220 SPECIAL REPORT Gentlemen:

In accordance with Nine Mile Point Unit 1 (NMP1) Technical Specification sections 3.6.10.1 and 6.9.2.b. , we hereby submit the following Special Report regarding an inoperable fire barrier.

On October 26, 1986, an Occurrence Report was written because Fire Door #24 was inoperable for more than 14 days. The door would not close under its own power. The positive pressure in the Turbine Access Area was greater than the door's own closure power.

i Measures to maintain compliance with Section 3.6.10.1 of NMP1 Technical Specifications were implemented. The door has since been replaced and closes under its own power.

In accordance with NMP1 Technical Specification Sections 3.6.7.b and 6.9.2.b we report the following.

On October 28, 1986, an Occurrence Report was written because an electrical fire pump was inoperabic for more than 7 days. The relief valve cracked and needs replacing.

The pump will be restored to an operabic status as soon as replacement parts are made available. Meanwhile, the diesel fire pump was available for back-up with the following exception:

On November 10, 1986, the diesel fire pump was taken out of service to trouble-shoot a lube oil pressure switch. Efforts to comply with Technical Specification Section 3.6.7.c included cross ticing to Nine Mile Point Unit 2's fire suppression system as a back-up. In accordance with Section 6.9.2.a of NMP1's Technical Specifications, the Regional Office was notified on November 10, 1986.
