NMP-15167 NIAGARA MOHAWK POWER CORPORATION NI AGAR A MOHAWK 300 ERIE BOULEV ARD WEST SYRACUSE.N Y 132O2 December 13, 1985 Dr. Thomas E. Murley Regional Administrator United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406 RE: Docket 50-220 SPECIAL REPORT Supplementary Information Gentlemen:

This correspondence provides supplementary information with respect to our November 22, 1985, Special Report concerning an inoperable channel of the Containment liydrogen-Oxygen Monitoring System.

At 2100 on November 19, 1985, the channel #11 Ilydrogen-Oxygen Monitoring Unit (Beckman Instruments, Inc) was declared inoperabic due to loss of sample flow. Our investigation has determined the cause to be excess condensation in the instrument line. The sample pump had worn to a condition that it could not provide sufficient suction to allow for adequate condensate evacuation.

In order to return the channel #11 Ilydrogen-Oxygen Monitoring System to service, the line was disconnected and the excess condensation removed.

The existing pump is currently removing enouoh condensation.

Ilowever, upon receipt of a new pump, the existing pump will be replaced.

Very truly yours, W)@
