Docket No. 50-220 SPECIAL REPORT Gentlemen:
In accordance with the Nine Mile Point Unit I Technical Specifications a Special Report is required for each fire barrier and detection system that is out-of-service for more than 14 days.
During the recent refueling outage, two of these incidents occun 3d.
Each is described below. A separate Special Report will not be submitted for each incident since this letter satisfies the reporting requirements.
On June 6, 1986 fire door 137 (Turbine Building 261', MSIV Room) was breached to perform a modification to the fire door. The fire door was declared non-functional in accordance with Technical Specification 3.6.10.1 (Fire Barrier Penetrations).
In accordance with Technical Specification 3.6.10.1.b a continuous fire watch was established. The fire door was returned to service on June 24, 1986 and the continuous fire watch was removed.
On June 12, 1986 fire detection system DA4116W (Reactor Building 261') was removed from service to support welding activities in the area. The system was declared inoperabic in accordance with Technical Specification 3.6.6 (Fire Detection).
Since an inoperabic fire door existed in the detection area, a continuous fire watch was established in accordance with Technical Specification 3.6.10.1.b.
On June 26, 1986 the detection system was returned to service and the continuous fire watch was removed.
