Docket No. 50-483

Union Electric Company

ATTH: Mr. Donald F. Schnell

Vice President - Nuclear

Fost Office Eox 149 - Mail Code 400

St. Louis, M0 63166

Gentlemen:

Enclosed is an addendum to Inspection Report No. 50-483/86014(DRSS)

transmitted by our letter dated July 17, 1986. The addendum consists of

comparisons of results of a liquid sample collected during the inspection,

results of a subsequent spiked liquid sample sent to the environmental

contractor, your Analytic cross check results, and criteria for comparing

analytical measurements.

Because of poor counting statistics Sr-89 and Sr-90 are not compared in

Table 2 (P00L). However, because the contractor reported positive values

when the NRC lab reported not detected," a spiked liquid was supplied to

the contractor through your laboratory. These comparisons (SPLIQ) resulted

in disagreements for both nuclides.

A blind crosscheck sample supplied by Analytics, Inc. was counted by your

laboratory which resulted in agreements for both nuclides. From discussions

with Mr. C. Graham of your staff it is our understanding that you plan to

obtain the services of another vendor and split samples starting with the first

quarter effluent composite samples to compare against analyses performed in

your laboratory. In addition you plan to continue the quarterly crosscheck

program with Analytics. These independent program results will be used to

assure the adequacy of your analytical capability in the event you elect to

perform contracted analyses in house in the future.

The crosscheck results will close out Open Item No. 50-483/86014-01.

Please attach the addendum to your copy of our inspection report.
