WE Letter VPNPD-88-139/NRC-88-053 to Mr. A. Bert Davis dated 6/13/88, I.E. Bulletin 79-14 Open Item This letter provides a summary of the results of walkdowns performed by Wisconsin Electric personnel of the following piping systems.

1) Isometric P-119, Safety Injection from Pump 15A and B to the Containment Penetrations P-13 and 27, documented by Bechtel Calculation #15-15.
2. Portions of Isometric P-132 and P-133, Residual Heat Removal (RHR) Pump P10A and B Discharge to RHR Heat Exchangers HX-llA and B, and bypass line to anchor H-9 on line AC-60lR-6 and Containment Penetration P-8, documented by Bechtel Calculation #14-24.
3. Isometric P-140 and P-142, Emergency Feedwater Inside Containment from Penetrations P-5 and P-6 to the main feedwater piping connections, documented by Bechtel l Calculations #2-16 and #2-17.
4. A portion of Isometric P-148, Auxiliary Coolant Inside Containment from Penetration P-8 to Valves 1-852A and 1-720, documented by Westinghouse Calculation W9.

Mr. A. Bert Davis July 29, 1988 Page 2 Items 1 and 2 were walked down as committed in the referenced letter to collect additional data upon which to evaluate the overall accuracy of our 79-14 program results. Mr. J. Gavula of your staff witnessed the walkdown of the safety injection system piping (Isometric P-119) on June 23, 1988. The summary results of Items 3 and 4, walkdowns of which were performed in Unit 1 containment in May, 1988, are also being provided with this letter as requested by Mr. Gavula during the June 23 exit meeting.

The attachments 1, 2, and 3 provide a node by node dimensional comparison, for Items 1, 2, and 3 above respectively, between the current isometric revisione the analytical model (the computer input data representing the configuration analyzed),

and the dimensions as measured by the walkdown team.

Dimensional differences between the analytical model and the walkdown dimensions that are greater than the acceptable tolerance criteria established for the 79-14 program, provided as Attachment 5, are identified and reconciled. Attachment 4, the comparison for Item 4 above, does not include the analytical dimensional data comparison since we do not have the Westinghouse computer input data or analytical isometric in our program records.

The results of these walkdowns are summarized as follows:

a) The original walkdown information documented was generally accutate and thorough.

b) The numbers and types (rigid hanger, restraint, spring can, etc.) of supports identified on the isometric matched the as-built configuration. No. supports were identified in the

~

walkdown that were not identified on the isometrics nor were there any missing supports.

c) Some dimensional discrepancies on support locations were identified (reference Attachments 1 - 4), although no discrepancies in support directionality or orientation were identified.

d) The analytical models for Items 1-3 above, were generally consisten>. with the isometric used to generate the model, except in the few cases noted in the attachments. This provides additional assurance that the analysts accurately

, input the information provided them from the field walk-

o Mr. A. Bert Davis July 29, 1988 Page 3 As stated in the referenced letter, we plan to inspect additional piping systems in Unit 2 beginning October, 1988.

We will advise you of the actual walkdown dates prior to the outage, should Mr. Gavula wish to participate in or witness these walkdowns.

If you have any questions on the information enclosed, please contact me.

Very truly yours, G)
