VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 & 2 FIRE PUMP 087 OF SERVICF, GRE ATER TH AN 7 DAYS SPECIAL REPORT Pursuant to Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) Technical Requirement 1r.2.1.2.1.A.2, a Special Report is required because the motor driven fire pump has been out of service for greater than 7 days. On October 15,1992, at 0815 hours0.00943 days
0.226 hours
0.00135 weeks
3.101075e-4 months
, the motor driven fire pump,1-FP-P-1, was tagged out and removed from service as a safety precaution to facilitate maintenance activities on the "A" Circulating Water (CW) pump,1-CW-P-1 A.

The recirculating discharge of the fire pump empties into the "A" CW bay where maintenance activities are being performed. The fire pump was removed from service, because personnel working in the "A" CW bay cou'd be subjected to flooding conditions should the fire pump enter a recirculation condition. The fire pump remained out of service until the CW pump removal was completed. Fire pump 1-FP-

!) P-1 was returned to service at 0418 hours0.00484 days
0.116 hours
6.911376e-4 weeks
1.59049e-4 months
on October 31,1992.

To provide for a loss of redundancy, with 1-FP-P-1 out of service, a motor driven fire pump,1-FW-P-11, is main:ained operable and the cross tie to the plant fire loop is

, opened. The cross lie to the plant fire loop will be opened when i-FP-P-1 is out of service.

Once the CW pump inspection and rebuilding are completed and ready for reinstallation, the fire pump w:ll again be taken out of service. The reinstallation activities of the CW pump are expected to last greater than 7 days. As such the UFSAR Technical Requirement 16.2.1.2.1.A.2 will be exceeded again during reinstallation of the "A" CW pump. Therefore, notification of the scheduled fire pump inoperability is being included as a part of this Special Report.
