-During an engineering walkdown of North Anna Power Station on July 21,1992, it - .

was. discovered that a fire damper was not installed as specified in a station drawing,.

Theidrawing . depicted -the damper in a vertical- Heating Ventilation and Air.

Conditioning (HVAC) duct between the Unit . Normal Switchgear Room and Cable - ,

Spreading Room.1For compliance with: Appendix A to-Branch Technical Position APCSB 9.5-1, this' duct is required to have a three hour rated fire damper. Deviation Repo" 92-1579 was submitted when the missing. damper was discovered, and an i hourly fire watch was implemented. Subsequently, the duct was wrapped with a fire

" rated material tolensure fires in the Normal Switchgear Room will not affect the Cable.

- No signif.icant safety consequences resulted from this condition because these areas are controlled with either operable fire detection and. suppression equipment or- ,

Lappropriate administrative measures such as a firewatch. Furthermore,- Appendix R'

. safe _ shutdown equipment is not located in either room. The subject duct is_ a HVAC

" throughway"'with no: openings:in' the Normal-Switchgear Room or the Cable LSpreadi_ng Room. The ductwork has an inherent fire rating of one _ hour due to its steel, construction fan existing. damper in the_same duct located near the floor of the Unit 2 LCable Spreading-Room would have-provided the required separation from the areas -

below.- Therefore, the health and safety of the public were not affected as a result of

this condition.
