VJfLqlNIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY llORTH ANM& POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND_2 FIRE S.QPPRESSION WATER SYSTEM INOPERABLE On March 10 1992, a failure of the underground fire protection header piping was experienced. The failure occurred in the pipin0 where the diesel driven fire pump discharge lino connects to the main fire protection header. Attempts were made to isolate the header while maintaining the motor driven fire protection pump operable.
The differential pressure across the associated valves precluded Isolation of the failed section of pipe. Subsequently, the firo protection pumps were manually secured and the header pressure reduced to allow isolation of the fire header. This evolution rendered the fire suppression water system inoperable. The event is being reported as a Special Report in accordance with Section 16.2 1.2.1 of the North Anna Power Station Updated Final Safoty Analysis Report.
The loak. was isolated and the motor driven fire protection pump was returned to service on March 10, 1992. The duration of unavailability was 1 hour1.157407e-5 days
2.777778e-4 hours
1.653439e-6 weeks
3.805e-7 months
53 minutes.
