Washington, D.C. 20555 Docket Nos. 50-338 l 50-339 License Nos. NPF-4 NPF-7 Gentlemen:

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 .

FIRE PUMP OUT OF SERVICE GREATER THAN 7 DAYS !

SPECIAL REPORT Pursuant to the North Anna Power Station Technical Requirements Manual, >

Specification TR 7.1.1.B.1, a Special Report is required because the motor driven fire pump was out of service for greater than 7 days. On April 27,1994, at 0158 hours0.00183 days
0.0439 hours
2.612434e-4 weeks
6.0119e-5 months
, the motor driven fire pump,1-FP-P-1, was tagged out and removed from service to facilitate maintenance activities on the "B" Circulating Water (CW) pump,1-CW-P-1B.

The fire pump takes suction from the "B" CW bay and, as such, is removed from service to drain the bay prior to maintenance activities being performed. The motor driven fire pump remained out of service until maintenance on the "B" CW pump was completed.

To provide for a loss of redundancy, with 1-FP-P-1 out of service, another motor driven fire pump,1-FP-P-11, was maintained operable and aligned to the plant fire loop. Fire pump 1-FP-P-1 was returned to service on May 10,1994.

This Special Report has been reviewed by the Station Nuclear Safety and Operating Committee and will be provided to the Management Safety Review Committee.

Should you have any questions regarding this report, please contact us.

Very truly yours, A~
