SEMIANNUAL PLANT PERFORMANCE REVIEW - GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION ,

On October 30,1996, the NRC staff completed the Semiannual Plant Performance Review (SPPR) for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. The staff conducts these reviews for all-operating nuclear power plants to develop an integrated understanding of-safety-performance. The results are used by NRC management to facilitate planning and allocatier, uf inspection resources. The SPPR for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station involved i l the palticipation of all technical divisions in evaluating inspection results and safety l l performance information for the period March to Or.tober 1996. SPPRs provide NRC management with a current summary of licensee performance and serve as inputs into the  :

NRC Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance and Senior Management Meeting reviews.

l This letter advises you of our planned inspection effort resulting from the Grand Gulf-Nuclear Station SPPR review. It is provided to minimize the resource impact on your staff and to allow for scheduling conflicts and personnel availability to be resolved in advance of l inspector arrival onsite. The enclosure details our inspection plan for the next 8 months. ,

j Our reviews identified no performance trends that indicate a need for additional inspections. Resident inspections are not listed due to their ongoing and continuous  !

nature.
