Wisconsin Electnc eaara couraur 231 W. MICHIGAN, P.O. BOX 2046. MILWAUMEE, WI 53201 February 11, 1985 Mr. J. G. Keppler, Regional Administrator Office of Inspection and Enforcement, Region III U. S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 Attention: Mr. C. J. Paperiello, Chief Emergency Preparedness Branch Gentlemen:

DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 RESPONSE TO NOTICE OF VIOLATION IE INSPECTION REPORTS 50-266/84-22 AND 50-301/84-20 POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 On January 16, 1985, we received your letter dated January 11, 1985 which forwarded the subject inspection reports.

Your letter also discussed an Appendix A " Notice of Violation" which was listed as an enclosure to the letter. We did not receive this enclosure with either the original copy of your letter or the copy received by Mr. Zach at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant.

Accordingly, we contacted Mr. Paperiello's staff and requested a copy of the Notice of Violation.

On February 4, 1985, we had not yet received a copy of the Notice of Violation from your office. Our plant personnel had by this time obtained a copy of Appendix A from the Resident Inspector.

In addition to calling Mr. Paperiello's office a second time to request a copy of the Appendix, we obtained a copy from Point Beach by telecopy.

The mailed copy did arrive from your office on February 8, 1985.

Because of this delay in receiving the Notice of Violation, we are unable to respond within 30 days of the date of the notice.

We anticipate that our response can be completed and forwarded to you by February 28, 1985.

On February 4, 1985, Mr. Krause of my staff called Mr. Hague and explained the circumstances concerning this notice. Although an exact date was not mentioned, we understand from Mr. Hague that a delay in our response is acceptable.

Very truly ,yo rs, 8503150476 850311 . y - B CL,/
