i I have received a copy of a letter from Larry Ruby, who we removed t.s Director of the Reed Reactor Facility on April 16, asking the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to conduct a special investigation of the facility. ,
I want to assure you that in changing Reactor Directors at this time we acted w!!h safety as our highest concern. .
I also want to affirm our confidence in Michael Pollock who is serving !
as Acting Director. (Mr. Pollock previously served as Acting Director during 1986-87.)
i We would welcome an inspection by the NRC any time the NRC believes that would be appropriate. As to timing of any special investigation you might care to undertake, college and reactor officials will be available after May 20 as well as before. Of course some student Reactor Operators are away during the summer months while the college is not in session. ,
