SUMMARY

OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON JUNE 21, 2018 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on June 21, 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) Units 3 and 4.

The meeting notice can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML18150A278. The meeting notice is also posted on the NRC public website. Enclosures 1 and 2 are the meeting agenda and attendance list for the meeting, respectively. J. Dixon-Herrity Summary of Meeting:

On June 21, 2018, staff from the NRC conducted a public meeting with representatives from SNC to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs VEGP Units 3 and 4. Specifically, the meeting discussed (1) SNCs LAR 17-037, Supplement 3.

The staff discussed preliminary feedback regarding SNCs Supplement 3 to LAR 17-037, specifically SNCs response to Request for Additional Information (RAI) LAR 17-037-7. The staff asked SNC how the LAR conforms to or deviates with justification from Commission-approved positions in SECY papers not cited in the RAI response. SNC noted that the phase such as was intended to indicate that the LAR was not limited to the review of the SECY papers cited in the RAI response. The staff and SNC discussed Tier 2* matters that revert to Tier 2 status after the plant first achieves full power, including the polar crane parked orientation. The staff noted that the discussion provided preliminary feedback to SNCs RAI response and that upon staffs further review of the RAI response, future discussions may be needed.

At the end of each topic discussed, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. All comments and questions from members of the public were addressed before ending the open portion of the meeting.
