The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Energy Northwest (the applicant), held a telephone conference call on January 3, 2011. to discuss and clarify the NRC's request for additional information (RAI) concerning the Columbia Generating Station. license renewal application.

Enclosure 1 provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the RAls discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the status of the items.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.

TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONS January 3, 2011 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Energy Northwest, held telephone conference calls on January 3, 2011, to discuss the following requests for additional information (RAls) concerning the Columbia Generating Station (CGS) license renewal application (LRA).

RAI4.2-1 The staff discussed the BWRVIP-74-A, "BWR Vessel and Internals Project, BWR Reactor Pressure Vessel Inspection and Flaw Evaluation Guidelines for License Renewal," equivalent margins analysis (EMA) data does not include ASME Code,Section II, SA-508 alloy steel or carbon steel. The applicant informed the staff that General Electric (GE) drafted a letter that includes SA-508 in the acceptance criteria. The staff also discussed the applicant's intention to disposition the TLAA to 10 CFR 54.21 (c)(1)(iii). The staff's RAlletter dated, December 20, 2010, will not change.

RAI 3.5.2.2.1.4-1 Industry operating experience has identified water leakage from refueling cavity liners and bellows, which may contact the primary containment vessel.

The staff discussed methodologies to verify no containment leaks in the annular region.

The applicant discussed possible methodologies such as visual inspections of all eight ports in the containment and bore scoping the drains to verify the drains are not clogged. The applicant understands the rquest and will provide a response to the RAI.
