The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Energy Northwest (the applicant), held a telephone conference call on July 19, 2011, to discuss and clarify the NRC's request for additional information (RAI) concerning the Columbia Generating Station, license renewal application. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the RAI discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the status of the item.

TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATIONS JULY 19, 2011 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Energy Northwest, held telephone conference calls on July 19, 2011, to discuss the following request for additional information (RAI) concerning the Columbia Generating Station (Columbia) license renewal application (LRA).

D-RAI B.2.31-1, related the high voltage porcelain insulators aging management program (AMP)

Discussion:

The staff provided clarification on the options that the applicant can respond to. The applicant can either include the 230 kilovolt high voltage post insulator within the scope of the program or provide a study showing that the hard water deposits spray drift phenomenon would not occur due to the significant distance between the circulating water system cooling towers and Ashe Substation. If the study is submitted, the study would be reviewed and evaluated by the staff.

The applicant understands the staff's concerns and will provide a response to the RAJ.

The staff will issue the RAJ.

The applicant also discussed changes to the Metal Enclosed Bus AMP Discussion:

The applicant discussed changes to the metal enclosed buses. Some components have been modified from bolted connections to welded connections. The staff discussed affected changes to the Metal Enclosed Bus AMP.

The applicant discussed submitting an LRA supplement.

The staff will not issue an RAI.
