On October 15, 1987, Carolina Power l), Light Company submitted an emergency license amendment request regarding diesel generator Surveillance Requirement 4.8, 1.1.2.f.11.

The following discussion provides further information as to the emergency aspects of the situations The purpose of this outage is to perform surveillance testing that expires prior to the first refueling outage.The schedule was setup to perform testing on the B train first, which included B Emergency Diesel Generator, The Emergency Diesel Generator is now required to be declared operable in order to change safety trains to perform required testing on the A train components, including A Emergency Diesel Generator.

The work to be performed on the A Emergency Diesel Generator includes 1)a partial tear down and inspection, 2)performance of Maintenance Surveillance Tests, and 3)performance of Maintenace Periodic Tests (see attached list).In addition, surveillance testing requirements are now coming due on A train components.

This includes required Technical Specification Surveillance Requirements as well as Environmental Qualification verification.
