  • WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has completed its investigaciens and hearings which began shortly after the accident at Three Mile Island on March 28, 1979, and the basic conclusion was reached that Mec-Ed should continue to operate as a public utility with the means of financial rehabilitation and

WHEREAS, extraordinary cost increases have resulted from the delayed return to service of TMI Unit #1 and associated energy replacement costs, causing great concern about the availability and higher costs of electrical energy in the Met-Ed service area and WHEREAS, the United States has not yet developed a clear-cut national policy on the use of nuclear power to meet this country's energy needs, creating severe econcmic problems to the nation and particularly to residents and businesses of the Met-Ed area.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the York County Industrial Development Corporation hereby asserts its positive support for the earliest possible return to service of TMI j Unic #1 as the most feasible and forthright means of alleviating an  ;

expensive and difficult situation and provide assurance that compet-icively priced energy in adequate quantities is available for the )

area's long-range future.

)

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor of Pennsylvania, members of the General Assembly, Federal legislators and appropriate regulatory bodies be requested to lend their support to give assurances of a continued supply of nuclear energy from Three Mile Island and other sources available to the Metropolitan Edison Company.
