BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT NRC REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING NUREG-0737, ITEMS II.F.1.1 AND II.F.1.2 The integrated commitment schedule for Browns Ferry, transmitted by L. M. Mills' January 14, 1983 letter to H. R. Denton, indicated an extension in schedule for bnplementation of items II.F.1.1 and II.F.1.2, noble gas and iodine monitors.

We do not believe that the January 14, 1983 schedule presents a significant postponement for items II.F.1.1 and II.F.1.2 as I indicated in D. B. Vassallo's February 1, 1983 letter to H. G. Parris. The schedule actually indicates an earlier start date for the nonoutage portion of this modification. The intent of the schedule change was to define the outage work necessary to complete the installation of instrumentation in each of the unit control rooms.

Previous commitment schedules had indicated nonoutage periods only for the performance of items II.F.1.1 and II.F.1.2. As the scope of this work became more clearly defined, it became evident that outage periods would be required for installation of the associated control room instrumentation. The indicated nonoutage period is for installation of the monitoring equipment and related structures while the outage periods are for installation of the control room instrumentation.

, The monitoring equipment presently intended to be purchased has local readout capability and would be functional except for control room instrumentation upon completion of the nonoutage work.

Therefore, the monitoring equipment which is common to all three units as shown on the January 14, 1983 schedule would be operable with local readout and have instrumentation installed in the unit 1 control room during the unit 1 cycle 6 refueling outage. Items II.F.1.1 and II.F.1.2 will be completely operable ty the end of the unit 1 cycle 6 outage with only the units 2 and 3 control room instrumentations scheduled for installation during their respective cycle 6 outages.
