Structural and Geosciences Branch Request for Information i Changes to Technical Specification Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Doc'ket No. 50-395 l

1. It is indicated that the minimum required average. tendon force is revised i from 1195 kips to 1160 kips vertical tendons, from 1115 kips to 1065 q kips for dome tendons and from 1181 kips to 1000 kips for hoop tendons.

Provide the detailed calculations together with supporting data in obtaining the original as well as the revised values.

2. For the prestress loss methodology, mentioned in special report 85-021, it is indicated that there are two methods to account for the prestress loss: the interaction and the non-interaction approach. Provide sample calculations to illustrate the differences between the two approaches for the hoop, axial and dome tendons, respectively. The calculations should cover the prestress losses at one year, three year and five year surveil-lances. Indicate why the normalizing factors for the two approaches still remain the same.
3. For each tendon surveillance, provide more information with respect to l its detensioning and retensioning, specifically the hydraulic jack gauge J pressure reading, the jacking force and tendon elongation recorded respec-tively at lift-off, at 0.8f's and at 1 kip / wire or at other equivalent conditions together with the number of effective wires in a tendon and the ,

length of the tendon. The information as presented in special report J 85-021 is not sufficiently detailed for the-staff to assess the accept- 1 ability of the requested technical specification changes. The information ,

being requested should contain all the pertinent data ranging from the '

initial tendon installation to the most recent surveillance, i i
