SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DRAFT SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT (DSER) 0 en Item 156 (DSER Section 10.4.2 a e 10-9)

Justify the fact that the capacity for the Main Condenser Evacuation System (MCES) is not consistent with the guidelines of the "Standard for Steam Surface Condensers."

~Res onse The determination of the venting capacity of the MCES was based on the design of the main condenser as described in Section 10.4.1.2. For one condenser shell with two exhaust openings, and an effective steam flow for each main exhaust opening of 3,000,001 to 4,000,000 lbs/hr, the venting capacity required was determined from Table ST-4 of the 1970, 6th Edition of the Standards for Steam Surface Condensers as required by SRP 10.4.2. The venting capacity required by the Heat Exchangers Institute standard was determined to be 30 scfm.

SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DRAFT SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT (DSER) 0 en Item 157 (DSER Section 10.4.2 age 10-9)

Correlation of quality group classification to which the Hain Condenser Evacuation System (MCES) is designed with the Quality Group D designation presented in Regulatory Guide 1.26.

~Res ense The HCES mechanical vacuum pumps, piping, valves and strainers are designed to ANSI B31.1 and/or manufacturer standards as applicable and correlate with Quality Group D of Regulatory Guide 1.26. The HCES is a non-nuclear safety, non-seismic Category I system.

The Condenser Vacuum Pump Effluent Treatment System (CVPETS) is a non-nuclear safety, nonmeismic Category I designed ventilation cleanup system, and is not part of the radioactive waste management system. Regulatory Guide 1.26 does not apply to ventilation systems and, therefore, the CVPETS is not classified Quality Group D.
