Division of PWR I:icensing-B U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington DC 20555 Docket 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station Unit #1 INFORMATION ON TDI DIESEL GENERATORS

Dear Mr. Miraglia:

In our letter dated February 20, 1987 (J. E. Ward to F. J. Miraglia, Jr.), the District provided a status summary of the TDI diesel generator inspections at Rancho Seco. The status suumary reported that most of the inspections had l

been completed with satisfactory results; only the turbochargers had problems involving excessive vibration. The District also indicated that it would submit a detailed report on those Quality Revalidation items pertaining to the 16 Phase I major components and a number of Phase II components by May 15, 1987. Although virtually all of the validations have been successfully completed and our Phase I report is progressing well, a number of difficulties have prevented completion of the test program and the report to support the May 15, 1987 submittal date. An interim report containing all Phase I component information, except the turbocharger, will be submitted to the staff by June 30, 1987. The final report, including the information on the turbocharger, will be provided by August 1, 1987.

Should you have any questions, please contact John Vinquist of my staff.

Sincerely, x/
